Buy Rock of Cashel tickets for the visit you need
Rock of Cashel tickets for an independent visit start with the monument’s base admission: €8 for an adult, €6 for a senior, €4 for a student or child and €20 for a family. An online administration fee is additional. The general ticket offers a guided or self-guided visit, with Cormac’s Chapel interior handled separately.
The excursions on this page include general Rock admission as part of a wider journey from Dublin. They are travel packages, rather than standalone OPW entry tickets. If you already have transport to Cashel, use the monument’s booking route described here. If you need a road itinerary as well, compare what each trip adds around the Rock.

Entrance fee and concessions
The €6 senior rate applies from age 60, and students need their student identification. Children under 12 enter free; an online booking still needs a separate free ticket for each child. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. People with physical or intellectual disabilities and accompanying carers receive free admission. Contact the site about support needs when planning the visit.
Treat the published family tariff as its own admission category. The listed group base tariff is €6, and organised groups must arrange their visit directly with the monument. The six-person online booking limit is a transaction limit, not a threshold for group discounts or a maximum size for the general guided tour. Heritage Card holders should reserve available free tickets and bring their card.
The online administration fee means the base tariff and the final online payment are different things. Keep the admission category, the number of visitors and any separately purchased chapel ticket distinct when budgeting. The Rock is outside the participating-site list for Free Wednesday, so plan the normal admission arrangements rather than borrowing the free-entry rules of Cahir Castle.
How to book an independent visit
Open the Rock of Cashel page within Heritage Ireland and follow its online booking link to the monument’s ticket portal. Choose the visit and the appropriate admission categories, including free tickets where applicable. General online bookings cover up to six people. Organised groups use direct contact with the site rather than treating several individual bookings as a group reservation.
The general guided tour lasts about 45 minutes. Its times are given on arrival and it needs no separate advance tour reservation; a self-guided visit is the alternative. Use the opening-hours guide to plan around the last tour as well as last admission. The two cutoffs differ, and the winter visiting window is shorter.
Cormac’s Chapel needs a separate decision
The chapel interior is visited through a guided conservation visit, with a special ticket sold at the monument. The general online ticket excludes that interior tour. Its Romanesque architecture and wall paintings explain why Cormac’s Chapel is worth considering as a distinct part of the plan, rather than another room covered by general admission.
Keep general admission and chapel access separate when reading excursion descriptions too. A road trip including a Rock ticket provides entry to the main monument; its included services need to describe any additional visit in their own right. The local walking excursion also specifically excludes Cormac’s Chapel.
Excursions with admission
The two-day Dublin journey includes transport, a guide, breakfast and entry to the Rock, Blarney Castle and the Cliffs of Moher. Accommodation depends on the selected option; lunch, dinner and additional attractions cost extra. It suits a wider trip with Cashel as one component rather than a single-site visit.
The twelve-hour day trip combining Blarney, the Rock and Cahir Castle includes all three admissions and a driver-guide. Another twelve-hour itinerary links the Rock, Cork city and Blarney, including Rock and Blarney admission, transport and commentary. These are different route choices with entry bundled into the travel service. See day-trip comparisons or private alternatives for the transport and guiding distinctions.
Visit length and children
Use the approximately 45-minute general tour as a component of your day, then allow your own time for arrival, uneven paths and looking around. A chapel conservation visit is a separate activity. With children, keep the adult accompaniment rule and individual free-ticket requirement in mind. Suitable footwear, handrails and attention at low doorways matter throughout the site; climbing is prohibited.
Ticket questions
Do children under 12 need a ticket online?
Yes. Admission is free for them, but each child needs a free ticket in the online booking. Visitors under 18 need an accompanying adult.
Can the general ticket be used without joining a tour?
Yes. General admission offers guided or self-guided visiting. The guided tour lasts about 45 minutes, with times given on arrival.
Does a trip including Rock admission include the chapel interior?
The chapel uses a separate, site-sold ticket for its guided conservation visit. General Rock admission excludes the chapel interior tour.
